Hospice

My dear, dear, old dog Luna had a stroke on Friday night.

I did not get to go to my mama's for her birthday which made me sad.

It looked like we would have to put Luna down by Monday, but in true old dog fashion, she rallied that morning.

I know the end is near, but not today.

And probably not tomorrow, but soon.

She can't walk very well and cannot walk unaided at all.

I can't pick her up so we've been doing a lot of sliding around on blankets.

You get creative when someone you love so much needs you.

The days have been long, long.

I'll try to talk more tomorrow.

Maybe.

Not much else seems important right now, you know how that is.

  2. Oh it's sad when you love someone and know that they aren't doing well. We stayed up all night with my time beloved cat Uther who was 18 and very frail. I know he appreciated it - he purred the entire time. We talked and petted him and had fixed him a wonderful comfy box. Hugs to you and your famimly and a special one for Luna.

  7. From William Stafford's "Choosing a Dog"

"It's love," they say. You touch
the right one and a whole half of the universe
    wakes up, a new half.

Will be thinking of you. Am sad for impending loss, but glad you found one of the right ones. An awake universe is a good thing. I know you'll do a great job of ushering Luna out of this one.

  8. Oh Michele and Jack and Finn and Cricket and Artemis and especially Gus...I'm so very sorry to hear Luna will soon be moving on to Rainbow Bridge. She knows she's loved, I'm certain. Peace, hugs and scratches.

  9. Oh, my friend, that makes me so sad. I hate coming up against "The Decision". I've had to do it way too much and it never gets any easier.

I had an old german sheperd mix who was 15 and failing but she would always get spry right when we started to make a decision to put her down. Emotional Terrorism, I'm tellin' ya'.

I'll be thinking about you and sending lot's of love and hugs to the canine companion. When it's time, you'll know. But maybe she's got some play in her yet.

  11. Our beloved pet companions never hang around as long as we wish for them to, and it's painful when they leave, but that makes me love them all the more. There's something beautiful about it, and I appreciate the vital gifts that they are. Thinking about you all.

  13. I'm so sorry. She's a beautiful girl and I know that y'all are doing all that you can for her. I've been through similar times before and I know how sad and stressful it can be. You want her to stay but you don't want her to suffer. I wish her and you the best.

  16. I believe everything published was very logical. However, what about
this? what if you composed a catchier post title?
I mean, I don't want to tell you how to run your blog, however suppose you added a title that makes people desire more? I mean "Hospice" is kinda vanilla. You could glance at Yahoo's front page and see
how they create article headlines to get people to click.
You might add a video or a related picture or two
to get readers interested about everything've written. In my opinion, it would bring your posts a little livelier.

  18. Sending huge hugs to you and Luna. As our beloved fur friends age, it is so hard to watch and know. You'll be strong for her and for Finn. She knows that she is loved and with love in your heart, you'll be there for her. We are so blessed to share our lives with these creatures who ask for so little and give so much.
