Eat sugar

Tres sorry for the lack of posting around here.  We've got a lot going on right now and I fear that things will be spotty until around the 1st.  Sniff.  It's so disappointing to open the page and see the same old thing, isn't it?  I know, I know.  I'll try, but I'm just giving fair warning, OK?

Two things to remember in times of ... complication (for lack of a better word):

There is almost always time to make a vat of cookies.  (Seriously, WHO eats this many cookies?  This recipe made about 4 dozen!)

There is also always time to ...

Oooo and Ahhhh over the resident Screech owl!!!  Tecolote Fantastico!!
Isn't she fine and darling and delightful?  Oh, we love, love, love having her sooooooooooo much.  FinnigantheCurious named her Brownwing which looks kind of plain, but when you say it, it's a very good name  indeed!  Apparently many screeches are being seen out and about in broad daylight.  I don't know what this means, but I fear it is a drought issue.  I saw my first Bullock's Oriole recently (WOW!) and we now have precious, adorable, cuteashell Gnatcatchers all over the place.  I guess they're all looking for water.

Please do remember to put out LOTS of water in your yard for the wildlife.  Poor babies.

Whooo Whoooo!

  1. I love owls. We had a small one in our backyard and if we sat really quiet at night she would go hunting in the trees in out yard. I love their sounds.

The other morning I was sitting at my desk and looked out to see a crow drinking from the water dish. At first I thought it was a grackle but it sat so long I realised that it was totally different!
I love watching birds and I'm really envious of your owl.

  3. I was walking down to the creek this morning and went through some high grass. I nearly jumped out of my skin when a small roadrunner (meep meep) went scurrying out and ran into the woods. Plus I saw a brown rabbit. This is a totally wonderful start to any day.
    I love your owl.
Wabi when you can because we all love to read about your life.
    Here's to the 1st.

  4. Me too love. I am excited to see the owl! I wish for one. As for watering the birds, I see the poor grackles in the parking lots around town. Their Mouths are open, I think, because they need water. I should start bringing them some. Wish the shop keepers would supply them.
Does a complicated life build character? I think so.

  6. I just saw an oriole at my water dish in my yard the other day. I don't know why it surprises me so much to see them around, but it does. hopefully the birds and beasts pull through this drought all good and everything...
